EarthBound Chat and More

Hi,

I just found your site, and will make a link to it on my site, but I was wondering if you'd post the URL to the petition to bring Mother Zero to color game boy. Also, why don't you start a chat section? I think it'd be sweet to talk to other people who love earthbound.

The URL for the petition is on EB.NET at http://www.earthbound.net/petition. As for chat, #earthbound in IRC on the Undernet is the place to be. Unfortunately, there have been some problems. So we may have to settle for the java chat again. Be sure to check back frequently for these kinds of updates.

Questions from the EarthBound Master

Hello my name is Matt. And I am a true Earthbound master, I believe this. I have played the game many times since I first rented it in '94. It is my favorite RPG of all time. I love the characters, music, graphics (believe it or not) and a whole bunch of other things. I am very good at explaining things about games and am somewhat versed in html. I would very much like to join your staff and do an exstensive walkthrough of the game. I really want to be heard for my gaming expertise, if you will, and knowledge of Earthbound. I have a growing webpage that I started a few weeks ago www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Hangar/2520 If you'd like to check it out. I think I would be extremely helpful to you. You've probablly already recieved other letters about this kind of stuff before, but at least I'm trying. I would be happy to do anything for your site, just to be part of earthbound.net Well you pretty much get the jist of what I'm saying, and the least you can do is take the time to respond to me if you want. My favorite enemies are the Ego Orb and the Loaded Dice, just though you'd like to know, well carry on and remember EARTHBOUND FOREVER!!

Heh, I think ALL of us think we're EarthBound Masters. :) About the Staff; right now, we don't really need any more staff. Unless you can think of an original job that YOU would be able to do, then you would probably get it. :)

But just because you aren't part of the staff, doesn't mean you can't share your "gaming expertise", and ideas for eb.net. You can always submit articles, FanFics, post on the MSB, or email members letting them know your ideas.

Good luck with your page!

-EBounding

Your favorite enemy is the Loaded Dice?! You're either nuts, or a true EB Master :)

As EBounding said, unless you can take the initiative to come up with something original that we can use on the site, all we can do is put you on "the list". There are a lot of names on it though, so your best bet is to get out there and do something. That's how I became involved with EarthBound.Net in the first place!

Where's EarthBound Zero?

Hey I'm looking for a good EBzero game that works because every one I get is screwed up and also tell me if you know a place I can get the game for NES.

Are you talking about the ROM? As fun as the game is, EB.NET doesn't distribute it. Go to Neo Demiforce for all of that info.

If you're talking about the cartridge, there's only one (known) in existance. And I don't think the owner is giving it up any time soon...

Nintendo's Robotic Mail-Answering Service

I wrote Nintendo about mother on gbc and this is what they said--

We did release EarthBound for the Super NES and EarthBound 64 is scheduled for a future release. For the most up-to-date information about it and additional new products, visit our web site at www.nintendo.com. You can also call our Power Line at 425-885-7529, or check out upcoming issues of Nintendo Power magazine for the latest information.

Please be aware that release dates for future products are always tentative and can change at any time. Additionally, as we have no way of knowing when a specific game will arrive in a specific store, it's in your best interest to check your local retailer for availability.

This Didn't even Answer My question!

LOL. That's Nintendo for you. They probably have independent thought alarms for their customers that ask too many questions...

My Dog Ate My Player's Guide

Hello, i want to know if you can give me a net address to get The Earthbound guide player book. I has lost it twice time so please can you give me the information??

Thank you..................

I don't know of any site, but you can call Nintendo toll free at 1-800-25-3700, and order it. That's what I did when I mutilated my first EB guide.

-EBounding

You can order the Player's Guide for about $13 + s/h straight from Nintendo's online store here. Information about the player's guide and other EarthBound merchandise can be found in our Merchandise section on the site. Right now, that's in the EB Info section, but when we revamp the site in about a week or so, there will be a Merchandise button on the sidebar to make it more accessible.

Ness in Smash Bros.

Hey, have you played Smash Brothers yet? Ness is in it, but I can't get him! Some say you get him on hard with 3 lives but some say you get him on normal with 3 lives! What's the real answer? and whats Ness like in SB?

Personally, I don't even have the game (yet). But I did get the opportunity to play it at a friend's house. He got all four secret characters in less than two days (it blows my mind). Ness is a pretty cool, (and pretty powerful) character. My friend got him on normal mode with the three lives remaining (it probably works on hard mode too). I think he used Luigi to get Ness as a secret character. Of course, Luigi is a secret character too, so you'd have to get him first if you wanted to use this method.

When he appears in the arena, he teleports and crashes (you know, when he crashes in EB?...that's what he looks like at first)

Here are his moves:

PK Fire- I believe you just press B by doing this. It doesn't have a very long distance, so, you'll have to be close to do this move. But it ROASTS the enemy!

PK Thunder- This move is really cool. I think it's performed by B and down Ness starts to concentrate, and begins to glow, then he releases an orb of electricity that you can control! Move over Pikachu! Ness can also use this to save himself if he falls off the arena. He can zap himself back into the arena, and not take any damage.

PK Magnet- It's not really like the Magnet attack. It's more like a shield. I forgot the key sequence...anyway, unlike the normal defense shield, Ness actually ABSORBS damage, and it increases his own health if he is hit by projectiles.

Other moves- Ness can sort of float too. It's more like a really powerful jump. His normal attacks are kicking and stuff. When you fight him in order to get him, he's packing a bat with him. So beware. His coolest move really doesn't have a name. But I think it's comparable to his PSI Special attack. What he does, is he levatates an enemy, and hurtles them clear across the arena! Sweet!

Ness basically sounds like a normal boy (who's Japanese...^_^ ). He shouts "PK FIRE!" (sort of sounds like PK FI-AH). And "PK THUNDER!".

Ness's weakness (?)- Well, it doesn't seem like he has any. The only one I could see is that he's kind of slow. But his telepathy definetly makes up for that.

That's the lowdown on Ness for those that wanted to know.

Ness? Ninten? SNES? NES?

Hiya. In class one day me and my friend were talking about earthbound, and the topic of Ness' name came up. We noticed that Ness could Be NES with an S at the end.We also noticed it could be SNES with the first S at the back. Do you think that nitendo did this on purpose, or they just have odd name choices?

~Bubble Monkey

Well, according to Nintendo's Mother 1 Encyclopedia, Ness is really called Ninten in Mother 1. Doesn't that seem a little suspicious? I'm almost certain that he's named after the Nintendo Famicon.

The fact that he's called Ness in America and everywhere else outside Japan is very suspicious too. They probably changed his name to Ness because Ninten sounded dorky to non-Japanese players. To keep up with the joke, they named him Ness, after the NES, as they did with Nester in the old Howard and Nester comics in the early issues of Nintendo Power.

While I can't prove this 100%, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that they named Ness after the NES and not the SNES. It just makes the most sense. And didn't the preview of the NES version in Nintendo Power call him Ness? (Speaking of which, can anybody get us a scan of that page?) I don't remember for sure, but if they did, then it's even more likely that he was named after the NES.
