Mailbag for Monday, May 22 2000

It was hard to choose letters this week. Oh well. Like usual, the topic related items are on the top. The others are on the bottom. This week we talk about musical references!

Mr. Itoi and the Funky Bunch

I think that Mr. Itoi just either didn't have enough money/musicians/time to create music for EB, or he likes that music.

You know I can hum Twinkle Twinkle Little Star?

NOA Anger

I think that Nintendo wanted to do that because they were all angry at the artists, and butchered it up a bit so they wouldn't recognize it, but we would. Freaky things go really haywire once NOA gets their hands on it, I tell you!

Money that's what I want

All them little "easter eggs" in Earthbound are fun. In the runaway 5 show there's some of the tune from "Money: that's what I want."

Music References

Personally, I think those music refrenece were inserted by NOA. Because they want it to be more... "American" Personally, I think they are okay. But I would enjoy it more if it was more original, not copied.

Naw, the music's the same in Mother 2. What I think it shows is how the 60's and 70's greatly influenced the the creators of this game. if you think about it lightly, it's not too surprising.

Miayamoto Mystery

Hi

This is my first visit to your site. I came here to sign the petition but thought I would mention something I have been thinking about lately. At the E3 show this year, someone asked Shigeru Miyamoto a question concerning the progress of Mother 3/Earthbound 64. He answered a firm "no comment" (this is according to a large gaming site, I think it was IGN64 or something). While this may not seem strange at first glance, if you look back at every other interview which has been done with Miyamoto, and make note of questions concerning the progress of Mother 3, he would always answer with a satisfactory response. For instance, he would mention that the director or writer of the game was busy with the development process or something along that line. My point is that Miyamoto has never answered "no comment" on a game (for a current system) that has been shown to the public. He will at least make a comment on how it is doing or something related to the creators of the game. What I think this means is that Mother 3 has either been cancelled entirely (not very likely), or it has been changed to a "Dolphin" project. We will likely find out for sure at Spaceworld this August, but I thought I would share this thought with you guys since next to the designers of the Mother games, you are the experts. If you have already discussed this and come to a conclusion, please forgive my long letter.

Thanks and good luck with the petition,
JAZ

Hey thanks for the letter! It's always cool to hear from first time visitors. You're right. The Mother 3 project probably won't be scrapped. That would cause another World War probably, not. But as for it being on dolphin, that probably won't happen either since stores in Japan are taking pre-orders for the game (N64). So, Mother 3 looks beyond likely. As for EarthBound 64 being here in the states, Miyamoto's "No comment" is most disturbing IMO.

Why We're Here

Hiya, I've been a fan on Earthound.net ever since Reidman was making the image-maps of all of towns. Anyways, I was wondering what happened to earthbound.net and why is it now starmen.net?

We're Starmen.net because...well, you can read the whole story here: SM.net-EB.net Story. However, I would just like to add that Starmen.net is in NO WAY associated with EarthBound.net or the individual who owns that the domain. We're going to keep it like that too.

Cracking NOA

I think, (hope!) that Nintendo's gonna crack. Here's why. The N64 has no hardcore RPG's at all. I know there was Quest 64, but that was a blight and curse on the very name of RPG. I still have flashbacks of its constant random encounters.... (shudder.) Ogre Battle 64, which is just coming out, is the only thing remotely RPG-esque. Thus, given that RPG's have gained mucho popularity (like it or not, thanks to Final Fantasies full of FMV), Nintendo might pull their heads out of their..... hats, and release EB64.

Just in case, We should send stuff to the major gaming sites, like videogames.com, GIA, and RPgamer, with hopes of a plug or even a convienient link. That would jack up the signature rate!

We have let some of the gaming community know about our petition. And the results have all been positive. Cool sites such as Daily Radar, FGN.com, and the coolest site (who has been a GREAT help in getting our petition known), TendoBox.com. We're going to continue to get the word out as well. But you can also do you're part. Let fellow gamers know about it!

Finding the EB Holy Grails

I really like Earthbound and I'm trying to complete it and get all the best stuff (gutsy bat, magic fry pan etc.) and I have no idea how to get the broken parabolic/antenna, I've heard a lot of rumors but I'm wondering if anyone can say for sure they know how to get it. Please e-mail me and tell me if you know.

I'm glad you asked. First I'll tell how to get the items: The Gutsy Bat, you can get that from the 3 Krakens in Magicant (1 in 128 chance). But you can also get it from the Bionic Krakens that roam the Great Underworld (place where you fight Giygas. The Broken Parabolic you get from the Uncontrollable Sphere in the Lumine hall. I strongly suggest you use Tomato's Neato Enemy Guide. Just go to EDIT, and then FIND ON THIS PAGE. Then type in the item you're looking for (broken antenna for example). You'll then see the enemy that leaves it behind. Neat.

OH! One more thing. An "EB Helpline" should be opening soon. Guruzeth will answer any EB question you have in 24 hours or less (or your virtual pizza is free). I will be fielding EB Zero questions. Look forward to that soon on SM.net.

Evil Seiging Tactics

I should send a picture to Nintendo of my Nintendo 64 game rack saying "you know what this rack is missing?"

EARTHBOUND 64!!!!!!! (except the letters will be 50x bigger)

Then i'll send another picture of all my Playstation RPGs and say

"See. These games are fodder to the greatness of Earthbound 64. But i have nothing else to do until it is released, so I guess i'll just have to play them again and again."

Now THAT'S NP Sieging! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It SUUUUURE is. :)

You and the Cap'n

I'm really not supposed to be telling you this, so I wish to remain anonymous. But the fact is that the CIA is currently setting up Shigesato Itoi. They're also planning to whack the one guy who was in the one Monty Python (the really weird one that kinda reminds you of Curly). Anyway, don't tell them who I am.

Also, I heard from a reliable source that Hershey Foods is planning to discontinue Hershey's Kisses, which is news of FAR more importance. What are they thinking?! Probably nothing since I'm pretty sure I made that up.

Oh yeah, about the music. The music's there because the people who programmed and designed EarthBound got lazy, not to mention they had been awake for nearly 96 straight hours surviving on caffeine fumes (it really isn't that bad a life, really, as long as heavy doses of Dayquil are involved). So anyway, after downing another quart of Jolt cola, they decided to start stealing music and passing it off as their own. Interestingly, they came up with the concept of Zexonyte the same day after discovering an old meatloaf in the fridge.

Again, PLEASE don't tell anyone who I am.

(PS In case you were wondering, my social security number is 155-39-9003.)

As I read this whole letter, I was wondering: "Man! What IS his social security number?!" Thanks.

Cold War?

EBounding, This is a reply to last weeks topic. Well, I was kinda thinkin, that...Maybe Japan isnt sending EarthBound 64 here because they are planning a big battle against the USA. When we cut off there oil supply in WW2, they retaliated with the battle of Pearl Harbor. So, i was kinda thinkin, first EarthBound, then...BOOM, We are dead!

You need to team up with the Cap'n.

And now for Something Completely Different:

Actually, isn't "Build like a rock" Ford's slogan. Or is it "Built Ford tough." Eh, close enough.

Don't you think Monty Python's Flying Circus is cool?

Believe it or not, I got my copy of Earthbound and Best Buy for a mere 5 dollars.

I feel so lonely.
