Mailbag for Tuesday, December 26, 2000

Here's this week's mailbag, with co-asnwer person spaanoft!

For the Thousandth Time...

When you say that Earthbound64 is cancelled do you really mean that it is never coming back?

~Ness20004

We honestly don't know. There's rumors that Mother 3 may show up on GameCube, and that's what this week's mailbag is devoted to. How's that for an intro?

~diospadre

Uhm, there's no real assurance one way or the other. It may surface on the GameCube, or it may just fade away. One way or the other, we can't guarantee anything.

This Letter Shouldn't Be Here

You should be warned that when the year 2000 rolls around the internet will crash and this website will explode and the world will end and the cows will come home and people will worship Pokémon and the stock market will crash and mimes will run wild and Tomato will call people idiots and Clinton will be reelected and India will become a seperate continent and Elvis will rise again and there will be no Starmen.net. HA HA HA HA! BOW BEFORE ME, KNAVES! I WALLOW IN YOUR PAIN!

~Breakdown

Ok, that's it no more stupid letters. From now on only good letters make it into the mailbag.

~diospadre

Uhm, so, like, yeah...

~spaanoft

128's

I am wondering about getting Ness' Gutsy Bat. I know the odds are something like 1/128 that I'll get the bat from a Kraken in Magicant. My question is: is it a one shot deal? or can I just keep continuing from my save, before i beat the Kraken's? I've tried countless times, and I'm beginning to lose hope! Anyone out there have any help for me??

~Peter

I say go for it and keep trying off that save. There's no data saved to the cart unless you tell it to, so every time you fight those Kraken's you have a 1 in 128 chance to get the bat. You'll probably get bored after a while though. I had to make a rule for myself; once i get to level 90 in Stonehenge looking for the sword, I stop and move on.

~diospadre

I thought it was actually the kraken you can RARELY bump into in the starmen fortress thingy. Something like that. Never actually got it myself. Not really worth the time to get it, in my mind...

Jeff's Turn

I noticed on your walk through that it says that no one has ever gotten the broken antenna that jeff turns into the gaia beam. In the place between the underworld and the tenda (something like that) the ego orb is all over the place. I have recieved the broken antenna twice. I got it once and went to go take a rest so he could build it and I got another one when I was passing through again. This is no lie. I have known this for about a year now.

~Yowceph Haddad

I must say I'm pretty skeptical about you getting two antennae's in one game. I usually don't fight more than 4 Ego Orbs in a game, and for you to pull off an event that has a probability of 1 in 66536 is astounding.

~diospadre

Uhm, I really don't know. I can find a broken antenna around my house, or just take one of my stereo. It's easier that way.

AoE

What is the Appple of Enlightenment?

~Chris

Depends on where you're coming from. If you want straight game info, the truth is nobody knows. IMO, Itoi got lazy on this part and decided not to say anything about it. You might also be asking about the contest run by Yourmamasmama. In it people submit themed entries to win some cool prizes. Go here for more info.

~diospadre

It's Tomato's alter-ego.

Praise

Congratulations, Starmen.Net.

I don't know how you do it, but the sites already better. There are more updates, more links, and more little improvements. Now what about the newsletter?

~Saturn2K

Cool, people like us. It's all Tomato's fault, really. The site is better but the staffer's are malnourished and dying! Oh no. It's only a matter of time before we turn on our lord and eat him. As for the newsletter, it is still being decided exactly what should be done about it.

~diospadre

I think we do it by having Tomato tie us to our chairs, and he hires people to whip us when we stop working. {dios steps in: hey! you dont do any work spaan!} I think that's the real key to success.

M3 33

Unlike most of the people that use this mailbag, i'm actualy going to stay on topic. (Bet you didn't see that one comin, dios!)

I'm leaning towards no. EB64 probably won't come out on GameCube, but we should expect somthing similiar to the EarthBound series. I mean come on, Mr. Itoi hasn't retired yet. Nintendo will probably be making him work overtime to make up for the EB64 cancellation. Then again, why was EB64 cancelled in the first place? One of the reasons was due to "Other projects" the development team was working on. Even if they are not in the EB series, they should share some simularity with it. (The humor for instance)

By the way, Whats up with "p33t" and other words that have "33" in them? They are used a lot in the forum and I still have no clue what they means.

*Edited for stupidity

~eduD edisnooM

Yeah I'm a bit skeptical about M3 on GC too. I don't have any thoughts one way or the other, I guess I'm a bit boring. As for the 33's, those stand for ee. ph33r fear l33t elite etc. 3tc.

~diospadre

I dunno. Itoi was supposedly getting the legal rights to EB64/M3 and was thinking of publishing what was done or something like that. Personally, I think they may be saving it for the GameCube. Since it could push it as an RPG machine too, it could be wise on their part for that... not that I'm happy about this though.

~spaanoft

Anti-PS/DC

Well, it better not come out on PS2 or DreamCast, that's for dang sure!

Anyway, I think that there is a possibility that Mother 3 will come out for GameCube. But only if Nintendo knows that it will make money. We all know it'll make money, right? There's like a thousand people in this community who liked EB, so it probably wouldn't be a surprise if they all bought Mother 3/EB64.

One more thing: I hate people who bought a N64 just for EB64. Those people are ugly PS2 or DC followers!

~GauntletWizard

Yeah the ONLY system that M3 has any chance of coming out for is GC, so you can rest easy. In response to your last comment, you shouldn't hate people like me because N64 only had like 4 good games anyway.

~diospadre

I doubt Nintendo would publish their own game on another system. Seems counter productive. And a thousand people doesn't make a best seller. Think of all the games that have a first week sales of over 1 million units...
