This week's mailbag topic:

What's your favorite EarthBound music?

Here's this week's mailbag, with co-answer person reidman!

The Throng Song

Due to the throng of having no time to do anything sm.net related, many of you are glad to see me back in the saddle for mailbagging. Aa I was saying, my favorite music has got to be the Saturn Valley music. and my favorite uploaded music is the creepy organ hotel music, because it drove my brother nuts. dios, please don't mention the "Stupid Box," as you know 1,000,000 people will just send dumb messages to you.

~Salivar

My favorite uploaded music is by Ericbound, its called 'EarthBound'. It's really an amazing song, he's got great talent. At one point during the song he pulls off a guitar solo with his mouth. It's a must-see. Hear. Whatever.

~diospadre

I am thronged daily with massive amounts of homework and NP Siege submissions to scan.

And, yes, I agree, Saturn Valley is some of the coolest music in the game simply because it fits the mood of the Mr. Saturn perfectly :D

Mod-(Not BFP)-ification

I read the artical about the Mother 2 cartridge. I just got my copy today (from ebay) and wanted to say that I easily modified my SNES. All you have to do it open the flap, and look for the 2 gray plastic pecies coming from the back, pointing toward the cartridge insertion. (Look on the back of a normal American cartridge and you'll see where these 2 gray peices would fit.) The just take some pliers and snap them off. No harm to the system since the peices were only plastic, and now the japanese cartridge fits, and plays fine. American cartridges still work fine too.

~SpaceQuester

Hey props to you for getting a Mother 2 cartridge. For you people who have no hands, you can also use a Game Genie as a convertor to be able to play Japanese games.

~diospadre

Mine wasn't quite so easy. All I could find was a pair of scissors, so I worked for about an hour with scissors and my fingers to get those cursed tabs off. I finally did, though, and the only real danger it poses isn't to your SNES, its to your sanity and fingernail health.

Weirdness

The best music in EB has got to be the Giygas theme during the first phase of the battle. With the guitar.

And in response to Rune, how can Paula be a dominatrix, anyway? She's only 13, that's simply wrong.

~Mog

I usually miss the guitar music because I'll forget about the devil's machine thing, use PSI Starstorm and kill myself within 40 seconds. I'm such an awesome EarthBounder, don't ya think?

~diospadre

Yes, the Final Battle music is the best video game music I've ever heard. I would LOVE to hear a band like Abide do a live-music remix of it...

~reidman

Dweeb, Geek, or Spazz?

My fav eb music would probably be either Saturn Valley theme, or Giygas Final battle...those are SWEET!!!

~Mad_Ness

I must confess I'm not too fond of Saturn Valley's music. The bells and dings and all that stuff hurts my ears. Don't laught at me.

~diospadre

Wow, we've got exactly the same tastes. I bet you like money too, don't you? Make your webmaster happy and send him lots of it.

~reidman

Romulation

I've been dying to play EarthBound Zero (Mother). I was wondering:

1. What is the best translated (into English) EarthBound Zero ROM and where can I find it?

2. What is the best Emulator to play it on and where can I find that?

~JoshOpus

I had a response to this all ready to go, but then I saw reidman's answer. When reading it, keep in mind that SNES9x is a *gasp!* SNES emulator, and cannot play NES games. Remember, reidman is dumb just like every one of you.

~diospadre

I like SNES9x, personally.

*Xodnizel used PSI Brainshock Omega! And it worked!

*reidman became hypnotized!

...Nevermind...I...denounce SNES9x...

...FCE Ultra is...the best emulator ever...

~reidman

There is no Title

My favorite music was Paula's theme. Nobody liked it, but I did. They play an exerpt from it in the song "Flyingman". (Earthbound Zero) I also liked Ness's house theme cause it had Pollyanna's theme. I also like Dungeon Man's music too.

~Ness151

Yay! Paula's theme is my favorite music in the game. It's got an awesome background thing, then it kicks up. I really can't describe it, it's just so totally awesome. Never pay full price for late pizza.

~diospadre

reidman: Your opinions are different than mine...GUARDS!
Guards: *enter* Yes your tyrannical and unfair highness, SIR!
reidman: Take this insolent fool away!
Guards: Sir, yes Sir! *grab the insolent fool*
Person that wrote the mailbag letter: But all I said was that I like Dungeon Man music...
reidman: *narrowing eyes* You dare contradict me? Guards! Prolong his death by making him listen to poorly made remixes of the New Age Retro Hippie battle music!
Guards: *eyes widen* S-s-sir, you remember what happened last ti--
reidman: DO IT!

Giygas-3 Everyone Else-Nothin

I think there a lot of great songs in EarthBound. My favorite would probably be the final battle music because in the beginning there's EarthBound Zero music, and then you get a moment of silence, followed by hard rock mixing. Plus, you get the exact feeling of PSI Rockin'. You can't beat it. If you haven't got to Giygas, download the final battle SFX on this site (starmen.net). (Look Ma! I'm an advertiser!)

~MikeyNess

No advertising. Heh... Anyway the final battle theme samples from EB0? I'll have to check that out.

~diospadre

Once again, agreed. Giygas may be too weak to defeat a handful of 13 year olds, but he sure plays a mean guitar.

~reidman

Digging

My fave music is the Onett theme. I also really like the Saturn Valley theme. Aw heck, I like all the music in EB. Do you know of a good place to download EB music?

P.S. Is Onett pronounced one-tt or on-ett?

~Pokemaniac2

The Onett theme is my second favorite music in the game. It kind of sounds like someone is shoveling when it first starts. And its pronounced wuh-neh-tuh. Waneta. Makes sense.

~diospadre

I say one-ett. I also say 'toh-mato'. All who say 'toh-mah-to' will be shot on sight, by order of the tyrannical czar.

~reidman

All?

Music from EarthBound, well jeez. All Video Game music is always the best, somehow. I don't know what's up with all this classical music like Mozart and Bach that's suppossed to be so good. All it sounds like to me is a bunch of notes. (Well, some of them were like, 4 years old when they made them, but whatever.)

EarthBound Zero has more music with feelings inside it, if you can ignore the fact it was made on NES. It matches the moods and places of the game. Earthbound music seems to have a big techno feeling with craziness going all around and cows flying.

I really like the Mother 1 Soundtrack. Even if the singer isn't that great, the music still has the same feelings inside. (Note "Fallin' Love". Doesn't get much better than that.) And I also like "Because I Love You", because it's like the theme of EarthBound. Themes rule.

Oh, look at the time. I think I'll go throw shoes at big sea monsters now.

~NickCaz

This is kinda random, but I really like the music in the cave of the past. It rules cause it's so insane. As I write this I find it kind of baffling that I like it but not Saturn Valley. Go figure.

~diospadre

It may have little to do with any of this, but Five Iron Frenzy just plain rocks. So does Leanor Ortega. See picture below.

~reidman

Guitar Stuffage

Um... did AC DC make any music for EarthBound? No? Okay.

Anyway, My favourite music is... either the Runaway Five Leaving Music or the Saturn Valley Theme...

Then there is also that... Retro Hippie Song.

I suppose someone is going to give me a sarcastic/insulting reponse to my message in... 5 secs.

So, yay for me. That's all I have to say, so... bye.

~Rockwell

I will not give you a sarcastic response, just to spite you! Ha! Haha! Anyway, yes AC-DC did do music for EarthBound. They did those crappy songs Venus sung.

~diospadre

Oh, I forgot about Runaway Five. I think all of their songs would be second on my list of favorite songs, wedged between saturn valley music and final battle music. I'll let dios take care of the insulting/sarcasm part.
