Mailbag for Friday, March 9, 2001

Next this mailbag topic:

What does 'I miss you' mean? And what do you do during the ending?

Here's this week's mailbag, with co-answer person icEFusioN!

Insert Title Here

I was just thinking about that myself. Then I started to wonder... "Why is the 'Ok desu ka' thing in Japanese, but the 'I miss you' in English?"

I started to think maybe he (Or maybe it's a she... THAT would be scary.) actually said something in Japanese. I couldn't relaly look ino that, being the "Wtf kind of word is 'Yamato'?" guy I am, and Tomato is never on mIRC.

Maybe one of the creators had like... A son, or daughter, or friend, or something, he (Or she...) was talking to, and then they all lived happily-ever-after.

I think that's enough. Whoop-Dee-Doo.

~NickCaz

I've read your letter over and over trying to find something to respond to, but the more I do, the more evident it becomes that there just isn't any substance to this letter. Because of this, I'll just say that I think Paula is saying 'I Miss You.' In a man's voice.

~diospadre

What if instead of a son, daughter, friend, etc, the creator was thinking about a large stalk of brocolli?

Plushies

You know how there are nintendo characters made into bean bag toys from many popular games? Plus I just saw there were some mario kart action figures out now. What if, *AND* wouldn't it be cool if Nintendo came out with and produced some Earthbound action figures, bean bag characters, and other cool items to buy?!! I know I would definitely buy them up!

~Ryan

Yeah, I've always wanted EarthBound toys/figures/whatever. I've always been envious of reidman, Plo, and Meeella (well, I've had a burning hatred for reid) because of those cool clay models they have.

~diospadre

Yeah that would be pretty neat. I would hug the plushies and they would hug me :) :) :) :)

Darn School!

I try to watch it all. I saw part of it, but then I had to go to school. I missed part of it... I haven't beaten giygas again yet????? Oh! well, That's suprising.... No, Not really. Shut up! No, You! YOU! YOUUUU!..... Oh. Excuse me. Well, I like the ending.

The I'll miss you? Hmm. Well, I think it's either Pokey, Giygas, Giegue (the same guy as giygas as my theory), Or Ness's dad. Because he's the telephone and the telephone is also giygas when it wants to be. Amen. oh. umm... It's over.

~MikeyNess

How could you miss the ending? You control it! Freako.

~diospadre

I think the 'I Miss You' part is just Itoi-san proclaiming his love for me. I miss you too, Itoi, come back to me.. :*(

Price Wars

Just reading through some old Mailbags-- somebody states they got EB for just five bucks and that's the absolute cheapest ever. Well, heres something for ya: I got a BRAND NEW copy of EB from a Best Buy for a stinking $3.99! Yes, it's only a buck saved, but I felt like I had to say that. And, yes, the cart still works just fine. It did not explode a week into playing it. I also find it weird I found it NEW on sale at Best Buy just a year ago... There were like 15 copies of it. Maybe EB is more popular than we all thought... heh heh.

~StarmanDeluxe

I believe in that same mailbag I wrote in talking about how i beat up a kid and stole EarthBound from him. I think I also said something about wanting to move to Japan because I'm in love with Tomato or something like that. So I think I've got you beat there.

~diospadre

What would you say if I told you I got it for $59.99? THEN who would have it the cheapest!!?! LETS FIGHT.

Aqy Info

The "I'll miss you" thing is part of lyrics of the Ending credits song AKA Smiles and Tears. Lyrics to the song come in the Mother 2 instruction booklet and in the pamphlet included in the Mother 2 Soundtrack CD. Go here for more info. It's very neat.

I believe it's talking about when Ness is departing from his friends Jeff Paula Poo and everyone else at the end of the game. According to the lyrics it seems as Ness is talking in them, so I guess you could assume Ness is the one who says I miss you, but it sure doesn't sound like the voice of a 13 year old. Heh heh.

Oh and in the ending I usually buy the house and read the magazine about the demon child in the car to the hospital.. atleast I think that's how it went heheh.

~Aquas - hot!

Thanks senor water!

~diospadre

Yes, I know I'm hot! - =)

Backwards

I usually sit and watch the ending, unless somethings on TV, then I watch my "stories."

"I'll miss you", in essence, is like the Simpsons quote "Yvan Eht Nioj." "I'll miss you" is "uoy ssim ll'I" and it flashes "Play Earthbound" really fast. So who is saying it? I'll tell you who. reidman. He is saying it as a general message to all the people who leave the Earthbound Community. So there you have it. Now that I've rambled, good bye, and I hope my first letter gets posted. "Uoy ssim lli!"

~EBDude

I didn't think I was going to like that episode, but the way N*Sync danced to get from one side of the room was pretty funny.

Woooooooord

~diospadre

The general saying behind the scenes is "They always come back" ;)

~icEFusioN

Everyone!?

Well, first of all, everyone in the game says diffrent stuff during the ending. So I go around and talk to everyone. However, the "I'll miss you" is not part of the game at all. Your SNES has realized that the only game you ever played on it was EarthBound, and therefore has also realized that now that you're done with the game, you won't spent anymore time with it.

~DforAlex

But I have played more games on it, and have played EB a bunch of times. Wrong again, Trebeck!

~diospadre

I read my SNES bedtime stories every night then I tuck it in to bed and we go to sleep..

~icEFusioN

There is no Title

I walk around and talk to everyone as much as possible to see if their responses change. It's like getting the most out of the game, or something... The I miss you thing, didn't you read the lyrics to the 8 melodies song? I think it's self explanatory! I think the lyrics explain that Mother 2 is indeed Ness's and Paula's second adventure together. For some reason EarthBound tries to give you the idea that Ness and Paula had never previously met... maybe i'm wrong. I don't know. It's just messed up, okay?

~Glenn W

But they didn't know eachother to begin with. Not Ninten and Ana, darn it!

~diospadre

'the two who came together again....' Yeah.. that does leave that door open.. hmm..

~icEFusioN

*blinks*

Earthbound had a long ending? *blinks* Oo. (So says the girl who played 8 hours straight, then walked downstairs at 1:30am, to ask when breakfast was...:)

I just sat there and watched it, really. But my TV broke, so...well, you get the point. I think the 'I'll Miss You' is probabally the Runaway 5, and they'll Miss you getting them out of trouble and paying all their bills. (Just kidding, honestly...)

~Torett

You played for eight hours straight? That's crazy. The only thing I can do for eight hours straight is sleep, but I can do that a few times consecutively.

~diospadre

Maybe they miss having debts?

~icEFusioN

The Stupid Box

I always go arodunadasd asking them if they know what my name is. Of course they always say starange thongs like "Good job you saved us all" at which point I become engaged, rip off my shirt and scream obseceneinted. MOMMA I NEED A NEW SHIRT
