Mailbag for Friday, March 23, 2001
This week's mailbag topic:
What's the connection between Mother 1 and 2?
Here's this week's mailbag, with co-answer person Picky!
They're sequels. (duh) It goes like this.
Ninten/Ness and his buddies fly around and kill Giegue. Giegue is pretty much dead, but pure evil comes along and gives him life in return for power over a huge powerful guy. Now pure evil's gonna try to take over the world, but first Giegue (now Giygas with Pure Evil in tow) wants to get rid of Ness. Ness defeats Giygas, then gets rid of pure evil. Then he has a party.
That's what happened.
and dios all your base are belong to my mom. she took them using javascript.
~WiZmO
Thank you for being the single intelligent letter I got this week. Instead of writing whatever drivel I would have written, I strongly urge you, the reader, to scroll back up and reread what WiZmO has written.
~diospadre
That theory is the correct theory, and you know why I say that? That's my theory too.
All your soul are belong to me, now go make me some food.
~Picky
I think it's the prequel.
~Zinco
You'd think so, but you'd be wrong. We obviously didn't get EB0 until like 1999, so it's a sequel, duh.
~diospadre
(Picky takes this as a challenge to say less words than Zinco)
*Picky eats Zinco
~Picky
Gee I wonder! Evil aliens! some etupid looking kid in a red cap! poor graphics?! I cant believe you people!! can't you figure it out or do you think that EB and EB0 aren't related in the least? YOU IDIOTS!!!!!!!.........oh.... sorry.......... because reidman has every one acting nice..... I NEED TO ACT INAPROPREATE!!!!! I NEED TO ACT STUCK UP OR I'LL EXPLODE!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGG!!!!! *explodes*...
~Chimera
Chimera, you seem to be becoming more and more bitter as the weeks go on. You should probably try to check in to an anger management class or something. Slide.
~diospadre
I'm kinda curious as to what an etupid looking kid looks like. Didn't you guys learn anything from the letter that I wrote to the mailbag? When you write a letter while on a sugar high you are just asking to get made fun of by the answers.
No go clean up the mess that your exploding body caused.
~Picky
Hey! I got in the stupid box last week! I feel honored. Anyways. EarthBound Zero and EarthBound relate in the way that their names are sooooo close to being the same. Plus they both have PSI, 4 main characters. Also, the first town has a mayor that you visit in both games.
~Colin
You fool! The Stupid Box is not something to be spoken of, lest you dissapear in a poof of smo- *poof*! (and whatnot.)
~diospadre
Hi Colin... I can't resist it
Spellcheck:
wtf! Where did all of your spelling errors go. I smell an imitator cause the real Colin couldn't possibly go through a whole letter without making a single spelling error.
I don't know if you can really say that the storylines are automatically related just because the characters in each of the games use PSI and there are four of them. Truthfully though I think that the stories are related just because Giygas and Giegue are one in the same.
~Picky
EB0 relates to Earthbound, because theres wacky psychic powers, and aliens, and hippies. And also the graphics are the same, but better in the second one. Plus Ness in EB is actualy the son of the guy in EB0, he just moved to another planet, and changed the numerical year system to include X's for some reason. One startling difference however, is that in EB your dad says "you're just like your mother; you work too hard!"; but in EB0, he says, "you're just like your mother; you never know when to stop"(or something like that). I think they should elaborate on that. I think there should be a sub-plot about her never wanting to stop. I think that would be interesting, and greatly improve the quality of EB0. Another thing that would improve the quality would be making the game possible. I think EB0 was the first attempt, they got it right the second time with EB. That is how they relate. The guy in EB0, his mom is hot btw. ... what? she is
~Detested Toaster
The video game calendar changed to Standard Chi Time sometime after the occurences of Mega Man 2.
~diospadre
I like your nickname :D
Hmmm... they are the same game except that EB was a more perfected version of EB0. I don't think that I've heard that theory before. I think that there are some irreconcilable differences between the games for them to be the exact same game, but who knows what goes through Itoi's mind except maybe for Itoi and some of his close friends.
~Picky
I played most of EarthBound Zero, and I think it relates by having the same title. Like, none of the Final Fantasy games have any connection, except for the title. One day, maybe someone will connect everything in a big "anthology" style game, but it'll probably really suck unless it's done right. ...Can you say "Super Smash EarthBound?"
~SimonBob
I tend to agree with you. However, the games seem to have the same basic formula, only with different locations and stuff to do. It's as if Itoi had two possibilities for the game mapped out in his head before he even started on the series. He went through with one of them, then later did the other.
~diospadre
Thank you for not saying that they followed the same story line just because they share the same name. Many games that share the same name aren't sequels. One very good example of this is the Final Fantasy Series.
~Picky
Yes. It has the same first name.
~Bloop182
Ok.
~diospadre
I have the same first name as diopadre (Matt), but we aren't related in any way, or so I hope.
~Picky
The only thing I see in relation is the game format. In both, you can use PSI and destroy an evil enity just by singing and/or praying. I don't think there's much else.
~LousySpy
They wear the same clothes, too. Other than that the games shouldn't even be placed in the same genre. But you can;t ignore the clothes.
~diospadre
My sister can destroy things by singing too. One time when I was baby-sitting her I heard someone crying. So I ran upstairs to see if my sister had broken her leg or something, but actually she was just singing.
~Picky
Your site has EVERYTHING, but I think you should add a message board.
~apathy
Yeah, I wish we had one too.
~diospadre
Picky didn't write anything. Bad Picky!
~Picky
Oops. Your site does have a messge board. Your site really does have everything.
~Yutz
Oh yeah, I forgot! We do have everything!
Except butler monkeys.
~diospadre
Well, it almost has everything. Now all they need is to hire me to a staff position. I can take this website to a whole new level. My mini-fro and me (miniature afro) own you all! (I would send a picture, but I don't have a recent enough picture)
