This week's mailbag topic:

EarthBound and the Gameboy Advance.

Letter's about EarthBound and the Gameboy Advance. Also some other letters and comments. Read up.

Timed Changings

I'd like to see something that I got a hint of when I looked at EarthBound 64. A different kind of weird than what was seen in Earthbound, maybe a little more picassoesque. I'd also like to see the rhythm-timed battle system implemented. One more thing: Different changes of clothes for the characters!

The rhythm timed battle would be a good idea. Sounds a lot more involving than just mashing the L or A buttons. But as for changings, why would you want that?! "The clothes don't make the man, the man makes the clothes." That quote wasn't quite relevant, but people would probably be confused if they changed the character's changed their clothes daily. But they would get a lesson in hygeine.

EB Soup

I'm sure that everyone would like to see Mother 2 ported to GBA, and Mother 1 to GBC *pheewt yeah, right* But here's an idea--why not combine the two? You could have a souped up Mother 1 in the same pak as EB for the GBA. Sort of like they did Dragon Warriors 1&2 to GBC.

Both games are pretty big. I'm not a very smarty man when it comes to the techincal specs, but I do know that Mother was a rather large NES game, and EarthBound was also a very large SNES game. So, large + large = pretty big. I'm going to stop because I am babbling. NEXT LETTER!

GBA Power

In the articles I read it clearly stats that GBA has the power to match the SNES and than some. That tells me it would be very easy for Nintendo to make Mother(EB0) or even Mother 2(EB) for the GBA. As for Mother 3(EB2), I still believe it will be for the gamecube. If anything.

best of luck,
Frog
(Ebounding's luck goes up by 1)

It's too bad that it doesn't have two more buttons, and a more feasible way to reflect light. You can't beat a TV, but portable EarthBound is cool no matter how it's done.

Rehashing

It seems that Nintendo is fond of rehashing an old game for GBA (considering that the launch title is Super Mario Bros. 2), so isn't it possible that Mother 2 could appear as the initial RPG? It wouldn't be too hard to convert, and with the right marketing, could sell among the Pokemon generation...maybe we could even change Jeff into a Jigglypuff...I'm sure no one would complain...

Mr. Foppy

I just hope Nintendo doesn't go overboard "rehashing" their old games. Hopefully we'll end up seeing EB Spinoff games. Like Mr. Saturn Bowling. But that would be far into the future.

TOOT! TOOT!

I hate to toot my own horn (actually I love to do that) but I got the GBA today. FANTASTIC. Earthbound would look primitive on this handheld system of joy. I don't think it'll ever make it's way over, though, because it wasn't that big of a hit. And besides, what's the point if most of the people here have played through the game several times already?

Primative? I think it looks better than the SNES. Of course, the need for a searchlight to see the screen is kind of a bummer.

EEEVIL!!

In the current (I think) issue of Game Informer it says that a port of the SNES EarthBound is being made for the GameBoy Advance. They then say that it is called Mother is Japan. Isn't the SNES EarthBound called Mother 2 in Japan? Can you clarify which EarthBound is coming to the GBA? I sure hope its Mother 2.

I'm pretty sure that this was a result from EVIL-RUMOR JOKE MAN, LOCO-SAN. What he did, was photoshop (or something) a screenshot of EB into an GBA screen. To make it exceptionally demonic, he made it look like the "photo" was on the IGN server, when it really was not. VERY MEAN! Many gaming sites fell for this gag.

A GAME Question

In Lost Underworld, All I can find are Chomposaurs and Wetnosarurs. Where are the ego Orbs?

I guess they're kind of a rare enemy, but not a rare as the caterpillars. Anyway, I usually find them on the West end of the Lost Underworld. Probably different for each game though. Can you win anything from the Ego Orb? Hmmmm...

Mother Confidence

Mother 3 would NEVER get on the GBA, but Mother 2 sounds pretty feasable. Maybe they could have Mother 1 as a hidden feature in Mother 2, like how you could play the original Maniac Mansion in the game Day of the Tentacle as a secret (well, sort of) feature. By the way, the GBA looks, and plays, amazing. Super Mario Advance is my favourite so far. I'm sure the Mother series will come out on the system.

Maniac Mansion was fun. It was, um, like EB because it had...kids? AND A METEOR!

GBA can DO IT!

May I just say this...

Earthbound, ( Mother 2 ), can be played on GBA! Because it has almost the same graphics and strength and such.

And if Mother 2 can be played on SNES, then Mother can be most certainly be played on GBA.

Let's all pray, shall we?
*Gets hit by a blinding light.*
NOOO! ;-;

I just fear that they might give the character's ANNOYING VOICES for no reason! Ugh...
