Scary moments in EarthBound.

Letters this week about SCARY and SPOOKY things in EarthBound. And of course we have a co-responder. After his long absence (what was it like a month?) Falcon24's name is back on the site, and he's co-responding to the mailbag. So go read now, and send in your thoughts about next weeks topic, or just questions about anything else.

Not being able to move freely in Moonside freaked me out. I thought my SNES controller, which has given me problems MANY times in the past, was screwed up again...

On a semi-related note, ever since the *dum dum duuuum* Great Deletion of 1999 any time I make a typo in the URL (a la www.starmen,net) or something I freak out when it gives me a 404. o_o

Evil SNES controllers is one thing, but it'd be even scarier if the battery on your EB cart died! :O For some reason I've had mine for 6 years and that hasn't happened yet tho. Errr, wait....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You know scared me the most was that creepy spider thing that fat kid from the beginning of the game is in! I MEAN LOOK AT IT! THAT THING IS FREAKING UGLY! AND THE FAT KID! HE IS THE MOST SCARIEST FINAL BOSS I HAVE EVER SEEN

Thank you Micheal! You're letter truly did sound sincere. Anyway I was scared when I launched a muti-bottle rocket at him, and it only did 50 HP damage. His gas really was stinky.

Earthbound being scary? There were really two things I found shocking. The first was the fact that someone ACTUALLY MADE A VIDEO GAME BASED IN THE PRESENT. If I were a lamer, there would be some various OMGs and other abbreviations that the pentagon has trouble cracking.

Continuing...my second scare was the Plauge Rat of Doom. What is that? A boil? or a really bad open wound? Creepy. -Mr. Bound

Actually, the Plague Rat of Doom is not as scary as the Ghosts in the sewers that inhabit trash cans. I mean WTF! Imagine you're walking around your friendly neighborhood sewer late at night and suddenly a garbage can attacks you! And a ghost comes out and starts attacking you! SCAREY!

I would have to say .............................................................. when the screen fizzles at the end of the game when you beat and are about to beat gigays.It was freaky!



I think what's really scary is how I almost resetted the system because of this dramatic effect. I'm sure lots of people have felt the same pain...otherwise I feel really stupid.

Gah, yeah, they made that a little too long. I mean you see Giygas go into static and then it's just like "kkkkkkkccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhh" for like 5 minutes! Argh it gave me such a headache, and then my mom came into the room and yelled at me :(

Nothing really scared me, except I definitely had my stress level go up in the Starman DX base (trying to avoid teleporting Starmen). Also, its scary when youre going for a 1/128 chance item and you see the "- The enemy left a present!" come up. ITS SCARY I SAY.

I can't STAND when I'm looking for the SOK, and it end up getting a STUPID FLIPPIN SUPER BOMB or some equivelant crap like that! This is more like violent rage, anger and hatred towards the game, more than scariness though.

Aaargh!!! I HATE THE STONEHENGE BASE.. Actually not really, heh. Most of the times I say "ah forget the Sword of Kings" and then I go and just kill Starman DX. But I remember during the EBFGPS 2000 I tried to ge the Sword of Kings and it was INSANE. I spent about 4 hours trying and I leveled about 30 levels, but NO FREAKING SWORD. Then when I give up and go for Starman DX, every single freaking enemy attacks me, and then DX blows me away! ^$EJ%$ Then I took a Multi Bottle Rocket and 0wned him because I lost my patience.

Errr...yeah. I'm sure pretty much everyone whose played EB has had this experience at some point.

You know what scared me? Going to the Lost Underworld and then OH NO THE GIANT DINOSAURS ARE BIG BIG BIGGER THAN THE 3 PIXEL HIGH THINGS CHOSEN TO REPRESENT MY PARTY!!! I was like "AHH! I WILL BECOME DINOSAUR MUNCHIES!" Obviously I didn't, because of course I managed to save the world, but still. And that was ME that Saves The Day, not you. None of you reading this. Hah hah I love that band. Hah hah I need sleep.



Question: WHY was it called the WETNASAUR? I can understand the CHOMPOSAUR but...

Dude! The scariest things are the GIANT EGO ORBS. BIG ORBS WITH FACES THAT PULSE IN A TWO FRAME ANIMATION AIEEE RUN They look like Al Gore.

The Gruff Goats that are in Winters when you play as only Jeff scared me so much for years. Then I found out that they aren't so hard after all. The Cave Boys still scare me, however.



What really scared me were the WINGED, HORNED, GROWLING GOATS that block the enterance to the Temple of Andonuts! If you actually know what I'm talking about, seek professional help immediately.

Heh those Gruff Goats got on my nerves so much the first time I played. At least, the one that appears right after you get off Tessie, since you can't avoid him. But I can probably attribute my frustration to the fact that I didn't steal the cookies. :|

Those evil ghost who tried to posses you. I was sure I saw Ness' head rotate 360 degrees. Then Paula and Jeff tied him to a bed and got a Mr. Saturn to excorcise him, but Ness threw pea soup up on the Mr. Saturn. So then Dr. Saturn said, "Zoomers!" and everything was okay.

And seeing as how SimonBob got to answer by bothering you, I shall do that now to. Can I answer with you?

uhh ok. Well, the zombie posessors are only part of the evil SCAREY stuff that is Threed. I remember the first time I ever played, I got majorly freaked out when playing because the zombies and ghosts were HARD. Then I beat Mini Barf and made it halfway through Grapefruit Falls when some Farm Zombies attacked me and killed me. :( Then I got so mad and started throwing a temper tantrum(I think I was 12 at the time :/) and I erased my game in a rage and then when I realized what I did I just sat there staring blankly.

The moral of this story is: Threed is evil and must be wiped off the face of the planet. kthxbye
