A Word From dios

Hahlo, everybody! (Hi, Dr. dios!) I thought the PSI theories were gonna die out, but I see you all like your mattresses and sent in some more for me. The next topic will be the BIG one, so keep on your toes! Thanks for the banner, Spongebob!

Like in Teen Wolf

PSI is a mental ability available only to certain people whose minds are strong enough to realize what it is. PSI is an inherited trait, often skipping several generations before it shows up in a person (i.e. Paula can use PSI, but neither of her parents can). PSI has many different levels and forms. The forms a person is able to realize is based on who they are, what their family's PSI history is, and how their mind harnesses PSI. When a person uses a PSI ability, they concentrate hard on what they are trying to do. Their mind then manipulates energy in the universe and forms what the person is concentrating on. However, great care must be taken in the use of PSI or else someone might use it for evil purposes.

A Chemistry Whiz

Before Mother Picky was in a house (one that you can't enter) doing an experiment on the Mani Mani Statue. Soon the Mani Mani Statue could use Psi. Thhen the Mani Mani Statue learned "Psi Fly" the Psi ability that if you use it you can fly! So he put on a Psi sheild and then used Psi fly. He flew up above Podunk and saw a house in the far North West corner. So he came down like a comet and was about to hit the gound when all of a sudden a big "Mother" logo came flying at him. He whent out of controll. Up, Down, Left, Right, he couldn't stop. He droped some Psi energy on Ness' house and took off like a rocket. Then after a long time an "EarthBound" logo hit him and then he slamed into a comet. The impact sent the comet flying twards earth. BOOM. The comet hit. the Mani Mani Stanue dug a little and found it's way under Lier X's house. So Picky sat down by a tree and told the Statue to follow his plan! Then the EarthBound story board takes place! So Psi was created by Picky!

Psionicists

PSI obviously is an extra-sensory ability that only a rare few have (though three out of four people in Earthbound have it. That just ain't right). A user of PSI is a psionicist. I believe that the psychic forces are summoned by the following: as your intelligence increases, your brain waves would become stronger, and therefore shorter. Psychic energies are all around us, but he most powerful of which are at great distances. As your power increases, a person can stretch out their brain waves to greater distances, thus harnessing PSI powers. If two powers are similar in nature (like healing) then as a wave stretches out, you actually are drawing from the same source, but more concentrated. PSI powers is the mental energy you expend by drawing power. Now, you may have said, "Wait a minute, Jeff's a genius, why doesn't he have PSI?" Well, I believe that one must have a creative mind to call upon the psychic arts. Jeff is scientific. His world revolves around tangibles, and the physical realm. Psychic energies are in no way tangible, except through the effect, and has its base in most likely an alternate dimension or plane of existence. These are just my ideas, and I'm NOT a wacko. I know Earthbound's not real, I just tried to explain this logically.

Residual Effects

I think that PSI came from Paula's Grandmother! When her mother was born she did not got PSI But then, Paula got the PSI left in her. I also think that Paula's mom could of been with the team that defeated Geige from Mother 1, after she defeated him her memory and PSI was erased but a tiny portion was still inside her, When she gave birth to Paula the Psi was passed down on to Paula.

Ness 199X

From the Magazine Duh

PSI is short for "Psychic"! How do I know this? A Pokémon comic shows Ash saying, "I've always wanted to fight a PSI Pokémon!" I guess in EarthBound, PSI means "Psychic Powers"! It's weird when you think about it...

Triggers

PSI is actually a part of everyone's mind. You just have to trigger it somehow to bring it out. It's a form of brain power that lets you be able to move things ad comunicate telepathicaly. In some cases, you can concintrate and make fearce atacks that can damage the body as well as the mind. How Ness, Paula, and Poo have it is strange to me, but I have come up with possible conclutions.

1. Ness has PSI because George found out how to bring it out from when he was with Giegue.

2. Paula must have PSI because something somehow triggered the PSI to come out in her body.

3. Poo has PSI because in the whole history of his family has had PSI. His family has PSI because they spent so much time training that it came out.

There Is No Spoon

Psi is a power granted to those who are capable of freeing their minds. It has had other names: the force (star wars), faith (the bible). Those incapable of Psi are simply those who aren't aware of the true nature of the universe.

Extraterrestrial Interference

As you've probaly already discerned from this, I believe PSI is some sort of extraterrestrial gift, but not given by the Giygans. In fact, the Giygans were given PSI by the same people who bestowed PSI on Paula and Poo's families.

Using the arbitrary name "PSIman", let us assume that in about the year 9X (1900 years before Earthbound, 1890 {by my timeline interpretations} years before Mother, and 900 years before the Hieroglyph in Scaraba was built, and the Tenda fled.), the PSImen placed a "PSI seed" (the PSI equivalent of a baby) into many of Paula's ancestors, and fewer, but just as many, of Poo's; and the Giygans. (This, of course, explains how Paula is stronger, in terms of PSI, than Poo). Also, the seeds are "Offensive", "Defensive", "Healing", and "Alternative". Paula's ancestors got three of them (all but healing). Poo's ancestors received all the seeds, but less focused than Paula's ancestors did.

Return of the Force

I think psi is like the force. It holds all the things in the earthbound universe together. It is maybe the most significant power in Eagleland.Ness is ''the chosen one'',it's only right that the savior have special abilities.

Or maybe it's a message that means when we beleive in ourselves,we can do anything!

10%

If you've ever read anything about Einstein or the mind in general, you'll know that the average human being uses around 10% of his or her brain. This is enough to produce the brainwaves needed for normal activity, but not enough for other uses. These 'other uses' come in when someone trains his or herself to use more of their own brain (other people are born with this ability naturally). When this happens, the brainwaves one produces become larger and more frequent, to the point where they can interact with another objects magnetic field (every object has one, minuscule though it may be). This produces the effect known as telekinesis, or PK as it is more commenly known.

Now, in the story of EarthBound, Ness, Paula, and Poo (as well as Ninten and Ana in Mother/EarthBound Zero) can use a huge amount of their brain. This allows them to use PK. However, this huge gift also gives them the ability to use their brain waves to manipulate temperature and energy, forming their PSI powers.

But then there is the concern of George. George 'stole' PSI from the Giygans way back before Mother/EarthBound Zero. This does not imply that George stole PSI like if it was a material thing. Rather, he stole the process by which the Giygans were able to give themselves enough brain power to use PSI, then used it on himself in order to escape the alien ship. This process, apparently, changes one's genetic code, because every one of his descendants had the ability to use PSI as an inborn trait, something which is only accomplished through genetic code.

Another problem is Paula's ability to use PSI. Her PSI powers evolved from her being born with the ability to use more of her brain matter than others. This had to be sufficient so that she could use PK normally. That would explain why the TV reporters always bothered her. Through time, she explored her powers and discovered PSI. This same situation could apply to Ana of Mother/EarthBound Zero.

Neurons, third hemispheres, and blows to the head

I apologize in advance for any headaches the following may cause. Furthermore, you should not read this if you; (a) get headaches reading the mailbag, (b) get headaches reading the quantum theory/hypothetical universe things, or (c) get a headache in science class. If any of these applies to you stop reading now and just skip down.

First off, for those of you who have read about the nervous system, you know that it is made up of small cells called neurons. For those of you who don't know what neurons are, they are the telephone system of the body. They send information from every part of your body to your brain by transferring the data between each other. Now that you have that background, on with the theory. You see, neurons have tiny little gaps between them called synapses. Data, in a form similar to electricity, must "jump" the synapse for information to be transferred along the neural trail (or nervous system). Now, it's only logical to think that a few particles run off of the trail. Herein rests the groundwork of my theory.

Now, the brain is divided into two hemispheres (or halves) that are associated with different functions (i.e. motor skills, senses, and thought). Also, as everybody knows (or should know) we only use ten percent of our brains. In fact, we barely scrape the surface of the brain. So, it only seems logical that there could be a part of the brain that controls the gathering of those "neural leftovers" discussed in the previous paragraph in one place, the third hemisphere or the inner sanctum of the brain beneath the known part.

This lost part is the psychic control center. Think about it though, Ness' PSI Special is described as a, "psychokinetic wave generated by concentration." Concentration of what? It couldn't be mere thought or else I could annihilate the jerks at school. It couldn't be pure will, or else I would have blown up several people. So that leaves some unknown energy that is heavily concentrated by some unknown part of the brain by unknown abilities. What is this energy? The neural leftovers. What and where is this part? The missing hemisphere. How is this possible? I don't know.

Why haven't neurologists (guys who study the brain) found this lost part that gathers the raw ingredients for PSI? There are several possibilities. First, they could know about it, but not be telling anyone; or second, they could only access that part after it stop functioning (i.e. when a person dies and they dissect that person's brain); or third they can't tell it's there.

But how can Paula, Ness, and Poo use PSI if it is so well concealed? Simple, their minds somehow broke the barrier that separates the conscious mind from the PSI mind. But how do the two mix? Any jarring could do so. In Ness it could have been anything that jarred him (i.e. the meteor crash). In Paula, she could have just been dropped when she was little. Poo on the other hand could have just gained his powers during his trial. You know, when that spirit ripped him to shreds. But don't go beating yourself in the head, after all, I could be wrong.

Uniting With the Earth's Power

I believe that PSI is a person's ability to control the physical powers of the earth, hence "uniting with the earth's power." That's probably why Ness had to visit the eigh spots. It's probably also what made the guardians so strong.

Huh?

PSI is shorthand for Psionic. I'm a gifted kid (or "wierdo") hence, I've played far too many games dealing with psychic phenomenon, and books dealing with psionic abilities. There are lots of theories as to what Psi is. But, think of it like the force. See, it's something that we can tap (into) (like magic) however, I personally think that Psionic abilities come from within yourself. Hence, through practice you'll either actually be able to use it, or convince yourself you can. PSI allows you to effect the world through sheer force of will. However, being smart and willful isn't what you need to be a Psionist. Sure, those qualities help, but it takes something special, (I'll use White Wolf's term from Mage:the Acension for this) let's say an Avatar. Your spirit... Sortof. Well, in trying to coalese my knowledge of Psionic phenomenon I guess I failed...

The Basics

What effected Pokey was Mani-Mani. It was leaking PSI in the form of telepathy. It's message to Pokey was "You can't win against Giygas, so don't try." This tells why he doesn't attack.Picky was probly busy whenever Mani-Mani was sending messages.

What?

What is Starstorm?
Starstorm, I believe is from the Mu training. He relaxs and once the spirit takes his sight he sees by the stars. The stars and him are joined, now as one. Then he learns it when the wise man shoes Poo how to exert the power from inside him. This makes sense because is sounds all meditation like and after all, Poo does meditate!

What is Fire?
Fire is not Fire. It is channeled rage. Paula uses this because she thinks of the treatment she was given by Pokey and Carpainter and how the runaway five and Everdred along with many other people flip over her looks, not her true self. She unleashes her rage and it hits a row of enemies.

What is freeze?
Freeze is the coldness that Paula and Poo would like to hide. Their evil side in a sense. They do that and as their heart freezes, their enemies do too.

What is thunder?
Oh... hard one... maybe... lightning? Simple. They call down lightning from the heavens. The heavens that bore Paula and that Poo meditated with.

What is special about special?
It's Ness' true feelings. His feelings about missing his dad and missing his dog and family, being hungry, and every thing that bothers Ness. That includes the fact all the bathrooms are always occupied.
