No, your eyes are not deceiving you. There indeed was a prototype of EarthBound for the SNES. This was the final NTSC version before retail release. Some differences between this cart and the retail are the chips were numbered differently and there has been some manual soldering. It is possible, that there were many different stages of prototypes during Mother 2's translation into EarthBound. How many stages it went through, and if those carts were destroyed or saved, is unknown. It is also unknown if any more of these are floating around, but it is highly unlikely.
