The Super Famicom Perfect Video '92~'93 features an interview with Shigesato Itoi. During the interview, video of an early version of Mother 2 is shown with many differences: - The Title screen features a rotating, colorful Earth similar to Mother 1's logo, as well as a shinier animation for the rest of the logo, similar to the one featured in the Mother 2 commercials. - The arcade is completely different. The walls and floor are a different color and the room is much larger than in the final version. The doors leading to the back are blue instead of brown. - The cabin Paula is kept in features only a single barred door. The rest of the back wall is wooden, like the sides. - There is a trash can in front of the Twoson Theater. - Jeff and Tony have switched beds in Snow Wood Boarding School. - The Tenda are completely black. - The Onett and drugstore music is slightly different. - Various sprite changes - NPCs are in completely different places. - The trees in Winters are different. - Enemies on the map act differently, and are in different locations. - The backhoe moves. - There's a trashcan in a weird spot outside the Onett drugstore. This interview was most likely conducted sometime in 1992, about a year before Mother 2 ran into major development problems. Nintendo considered quitting development of the game at that point, but Satoru Iwata (now president of Nintendo Ltd.) stepped in and saved the day by rewriting much of the programming from scratch. This video is one of the very few glimpses we have of Mother 2 before it was "reborn".
