I have created an Earthbound/Mother 3 Engine for people that use RPG Maker VX Ace. This is not
one of those scripts that just add scrolling HP, think of it as Pokemon Essentials but for Earthbound.

The goal of this project is to allow fans to create EarthBound fan games much easier and more
efficiently.

A guide this will be made in the near future.

Currently this is not complete. But feel free to test it out with your own project! I recommend not adding, removing or altering scripts unless you *know* what you’re doing! You will need to know how to use the basics of RPG Maker VX Ace in order to use this, as you’re going to need to alter the database for characters, skills, weapons, armor, animations, etc.

* EarthBound/Mother 3 Battle System
- YOU WIN at the end of the battle
- Scrolling HP
- Player and Enemy attack sound effects
- Battle HUDs are a mix between Mother 2 & 3
- Leveling up is identical to Mother 3
- SMAAAASH!! Attack popup (needs to be changed to the animation)
* All PSI skills are in the Database
* Customizable Battle HUDs
- Make your own battle HUDs using the default
one created by me as a base!
* Diagonal walking
* Custom Menu
* Mother 3 Sound Effects
* All Mother 3 PSI Animation sheets

* Adding Music
* Adding Character sprites
- Currently Ninten has the only sprites that function
properly (Made by Sam the Starman)

- So you don’t need to make all the characters stats and what not,
you may edit if you want to though
* Pre-made Tilesets for easy-to-make maps
* Mother 3 like cutscenes and NPC conversations
- This one is tricky to explain, but you’ll know when you see it
* Customizable Window Skins
* Window Skin Changer
* Revamped Title Screen
* NPC Sprites and Charsets
* Animated Battle Backs
* Shields and Counters

*Things that will not be implemented (due to mainly limitations):*


* 16-Beat combos
* Hold B then release to Run
- Running will instead act similar to Mother 1’s running mechanic
* PK Ground
- PK Ground is probably possible, I just need to dig a little deeper
* Sound Stone
- What most likely will happen is it would work like the ocarina from
Mother 1
* PSI Fevers
- I’m not gonna make people suffer, you may implement it on your own if
you want

Now I can’t do some of these on my own (well I can, but it will take me forever), so I’ll need help on certain things. Most the resources are provided in this ’EarthBound Essentials’ pack. I would be so grateful to anyone willing to pitch in.

If there are problems, bugs, etc. feel free to ask But before asking, please look at the above notes for future updates and to not ask a question that has been answered by me. Also tell me if there are things that you think should be implemented. All the Scripts and graphics belong to their respective owners. I only own graphics that I made, such as the HUD and the Window skin

In v1.0 there are some random graphics and sound clips in there that were used for test purposes and
will be taken out in future updates.

Eventually, I’d like to make a Mother 1-3 Boss Rush kinda thing where you can test out the engine in a real game. Also I think it would be cool to have a Mother trilogy type Boss Rush

This is very nice! I’ve always wanted to see someone finish the EarthBound starter kit from years ago. I’m also glad you decided to use VX Ace as the engine. As much as I respect all the work that went into Pokemon Essentials, XP is painfully outdated. Good luck on this project; I would love to see it finished!

If I can recommend anything it’s making maps of mother places like deep darkness, magicant New York city and making sure to add barriers to th

Oh yeah those came with the Japanese scripts, They’re all being replaced with the English texts.

Also the v1.1 update is releasing hopefully tomorrow or at the latest Thursday (which is the most likely scenario). Features will include:
- Battle Swirls
- New Battle HUDs
- A few more PSI Animations
- Conversation Windows from Mother 3 (you’ll know what they are when you see them)
- A few NPC sprites added
- Ability to change Window Flavors, and Types that’ll match the ones in battle
- New Launcher that upscales to a higher resolution and it helps it run smoother and faster on lower-end devices
- Hopefully a revamped title screen
- And More! (That’s all I could think of off the top of my head)

Coming Soon:
- All Music from every game: (maybe even Mother 4 tracks but probably not since the rights have been changed)
- Mother 4 Styled Sprites!
- PK Beam animation (There will be a few so everyone can be happy)
- All Mother 3 Enemies ready for battle (I would say all but I want to work on the other game’s sprites first)
- Animated BattleBacks

I’ll be putting out a guide soon for those who don’t have any idea on how to use this. I advice you know how to use Rpg Maker Vx Ace before you plan on using this. Like enough that you’re able to edit the database at the least

I recemend adding the ability to choose between mother 3 psi animations and earthbound but its probably too hard huh

When I released my engine, I actually just published it for fun, so it is not very good.

Yes, there are actually. I never got to finish the sprites, or adding them in…

Sprites and other graphical things might take a bit longer than anything else.

And for those who are wondering, yes, I’ve been working on this. I haven’t given an update with pictures of what I’ve worked on. So I thought I should. Try and spot out a few changes and updates that I’ve made! Don’t worry, they’re more than those.

Again, I really need to add more sprites…I’ve only been using Ninten and Ness sprites.

Hello, I’ve been watching this project for quite a while now, and I was wondering, what was done so far, other than v1.1’s changes? I don’t want this project to die as it’s an amazing project. Put in any new sprites? Fixed any new bugs?

Not sure if this is necroposting, but I’m having a problem.
Everytime I astart up the game, my chareacter starts with 0HP and 0MP, wich makes me Instadie in fights.
Also, if I try to open the Status menu, the game crashes.

EDIT: I sort of fixed it, The thing is that if I just edit the default character without editing notghing but the Graphics for the map, It’ll work
but it’ll have weird stats.

EDIT 2: Finally figured it out for anyone that has this problem, just midify some values in the code in the actor’s notes.

Alright, I haven’t given much of an update in a while… But I can tell you it’s back in progress! Completely new and redesigned sprites are currently being added don’t worry (sprites are created by Sam). I fixed the status menu it seems to be working now. I fixed the issues that were stated above. The way the HP and MP works is super wonky but I also fixed that.

The project isn’t dead don’t worry. I’ve been incredibly busy but things have mellowed down a lot so I should be able to work on this more often, I’m opening up a Discord server for anyone who wants to join, pitch in ideas, and see what’s currently going on with the project and I’ll try my best to update every few days.

EDIT: On the server is where I’ll mainly post, updates for the project will be there to download probably posted on discord before being posted here.

Im happy to hear that!
I wanted to inform you about a bug ive found in your engine.
Basically if you add mor than one actor to the party, the follower actors
Dont follow you, they stick to the back of the main actor.
In my case i had two actor in rhe party.
