The Full Story

Not so long ago, a question was raised: what is the Cave of the Past? This seemingly insignifient question turned out to hold the key to most all unsolved mysteries in the story. I put a lot of thought into it, and here is the results of my ponderings. I will give you my reasons to believe so and so after the story is finished; I don't want to interrupt it all the time. Note that I refer to Giygas as Giegue, because I prefer that name. Giygas and Giegue are the same, by the way, a fact that was already established in the past.

It all started in the early 1900's. A newly wed couple, George and Maria, were abducted and taken to a mother ship away from Earth. The alien race, however, was friendly, and seeked only to understand the humans. Instead of making experiments on them, they took them as guests, so they could learn from them while living with them. It is during this stay that Giegue was born. The humans raised him as their own child. However, unlike his wife, George never fully trusted the aliens. One day he escaped, taking vital information with him. The aliens, not knowing any notion of vengeance, isolated the remaining human in a world created by her mind to make sure this wouldn't happen again. Giegue, however, had been taught human feelings, such as happiness, sadness and anger. He saw in George's escape a betrayal, and developed an intense hatred of humankind.

Years passed. George had returned to his homeworld and used his knowledge to learn psychic powers and create Eve the robot. Meanwhile, Giegue dedicated his life to fulfill his goal to eliminate the human species. He grown more powerful and influent among his people, using treachery and manipulation, something that came from his human education, and could not have been expected by his kind.

It is in the years 198x that Giegue returned to Earth, backed up by his kind. His arrival triggered the awakening of the psychics powers of the descendant of George, Ninten. He set out to find the truth about his heritage, and found about Giegue's weakness, which ironically enough, was his greatest strenght: his humanity. He freed Maria from her eternal prison, and confronted Giegue. When the heroes played Maria's song, it brought back painful memories to Giegue, of lost happiness. The new feelings generated by the song troubled him so much that he left, defeated.

However, Giegue had not given up. His hatred of humans shifted to hatred of life itself, and he vowed to destroy all of it. He sailed the Universe, unleasing his wrath on all unhabited worlds. He became known as the Universal Cosmic Destroyer, and was feared throughout the Universe, until he met one race that could resist him. The unknown race fought Giegue, during which time they lost at least one of their heroes, Buzz Buzz, who was transformed into a bee. In the end, though, they triumphed, and punished Giegue severly: they sent him to the Lost Underworld, at the begining of time, where he would helplessly witness the birth of the people he hated so much, from the prison of his Magicant.

Their plan backfired when Giegue found his way out of Magicant. In the process he destroyed all the goodness that was left in him, in the same fashion that Ness destroyed his evil part. Thus, he became pure evil. However, he was left without a consciousness, and his mind was left wandering about, corrupting the minds of the forming lifeforms, so that every living being had a part of Giegue in it. In the year 199x, one being was born that was particularly influenced by Giegue. This being was Pokey. Pokey, being a despicable creature by nature, also gained Giegue's wishes and intentions. So he seeked the Mani Mani statue, which would enable him to intensify Giegue's influence on other people's mind, so he could in the end return to his master and serve him.

The Mani Mani statue is the perfect representation of the evil in people's mind. When people are in visual contact with it, it allows evil, and thus, Giegue to have a better, more tangible hold of them, though Giegue does not actually control them, because he has no consciousness. They are, however, greatly influenced. The reason the Mani Mani statue can be found buried near Ness' house is because it was hidden there, a long time ago, because representations of evil were outlawed, just like it is forbidden in certain cultures to make portraits of gods.

At the same time, a chosen one was also born, one who would fight Pokey and Giegue. The chosen one was, of course, Ness. It is no coincidence that both the servant of evil and its opponent would come from the same place. You might not have noticed, but the West Cave, also known as the Cave of the Past, is situated in the northwest corner of the Lost Underworld. Onett is also in the northwest of all the cities and towns you explore. Considering the proportions, it is apparent that the Cave of the Past is situated just underneath Ness and Pokey's houses. Ness' status of chosen one would come from the fact that he is so close to the birthplace of humanity.

Back in the future, the survivors of the war against Giegue were concerned about an ancient prophesy from the source of all truth, what they called the Apple of Enlightenment. It seemed obvious to them that the only way they could repair the damage Giegue had done was to destroy him before he even started his crusade. They knew the only place they could find the Chosen One was on Earth, the only place spared by Giegue. So they made a plan to go to Earth around the time Giegue started his invasion, in 199x. Buzz Buzz was sent to help the chosen boy in his quest, though he underestimated it, because he did not know about Giegue's escape and growth in power. He was prepared to fight the same Giegue he fought before, not pure evil. Unfortunately, Giegue still had many followers, and they learned of their plans, and also sent someone to prevent them from succeeding.

When Giegue's followers discovered that Starman Jr, who was Buzz Buzz's mortal enemy, had been defeated, and the chosen one was aware of his destiny, they started to fear the humans and decided to do what their master couldn't: erase the human race. They built a base in Stonehenge, and were joined later by Pokey when he lost the Mani Mani statue. All this time he had been looking for a way to join his master. They learned of Dr Andonuts and Apple Kid's works on a time travelling machine, and made all that was possible to stop them. In the end, Pokey used a stealed machine himself, followed by Giegue's minions, with the help of which he could fulfill his master's wishes. They built the Devil's Machine, which could serve as a brain and thus, thinking device which would restore Giegue's cousciousness. When Ness and his friends came to meet him, Giegue was just preparing for his new attack.

Now, I may not be able to prove out of all doubt this version of the story. But I find that every element in this version fits so perfectly together that it seems just logical. Of course, I have reasons to believe so.

The main new element I'm bringing up in this theory was that Giegue was in fact, banished. This belief comes from many elements. Notice how there are Squatter Demons in the Tunnel of the Past. Squatter, as you must know, means homeless. They look like Giygas, so we could be led to think that Giygas is one of them. The tentacle at the entrace of the Tunnel is suspiciously similar to the ones leading to Magicant. At any rate, it is most likely linked to Magicant in some way. Giegue physically destroying the good part of his brain would explain how he became pure evil. Notice how Pokey says "It is a gazillion years too early to oppose Giygas!" This shows that they must be in the very distant past, and that Giygas' power would decline in the future (or that he was already defeated in the future, thus further supporting my theory that he was banished). The Lost Underworld being the birthplace of humanity seems only fitting.

Another element is Buzz Buzz's identity. He claims that where he comes from, there is a prophesy that has been passed down from generation to generation. He can only be alien, because he comes from merely ten years in the future, and there is no such tradition anywhere on Earth. He comes from the race who would have opposed Giygas: that's pretty much a given. But this race could be Giygas' own. After a while they might have revolted against his leadership, but it was too late. It would make sense if the only race capable of matching Giygas' might would be his own. Also, the enemy knows as much as Buzz Buzz about the Apple of Enlightenment, so it hints a connection.

I'd like to open a parenthesis here to say that I believe the Apple of Enlightnemnent is the center of the Universe. It is called an Apple because an apple is round, and according to the Big Bang theory, so is the Universe, and its center. From it would emanate all truth, like radio airwaves. I believe this because of Talah Rama, who compares the Truth to a wave that travels through space and time; that could actually mean radio airwaves.

I hope you enjoyed this story, and found in it something on which you could base your own version. I reckon it is particularly thorough, and is worthy of such a great game. But if I have overlooked something, or if you want to debate over some point, don't hesitate to tell me.
