Apple of Enlightenment Explained - by Cracked Bat

Apple of Enlightenment Explained

Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground-trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden was the tree of life and knowlege of good and evil.
Holy Bible, Genesis 2: 8-9 (NIV)

And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.
Holy Bible, Genesis 2: 16-19 (NIV)

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"
The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit any trees in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit that is from the tree in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will surely die.' " "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
When the womans saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened...

Holy Bible, Genesis 3: 1-7 (NIV)

The story of Adam and Eve is one of the most familiar stories in the Bible and you probably know the rest of it even if you're not Christian or Jewish. So why did I write up some verses from it to start off my first article? Mostly because it looks professional to put some references to your source when you're trying to prove something.

I was surfing through the forums the other day like most people on this site do, when I came across a theory topic on the Mother 2 board involving the Apple of Enlightenment. I had read the Bible a bit earlier, and I noticed how much this Apple sounded like the Forbidden Fruit. Then it hit me. What if the two fruits were one and the same? Look at the similarities for a moment before you shout, "WTF!?! YOU ARE RELIGIOUS AND YOU OFFENDS ME!!!11one" like a homicidal ultra-liberal atheist. Both obviously have a lot of mystical wisdom stored in them and are used by evil in attempts to thwart good. If the Forbidden Fruit can make humans aware of morality and immorality, it could probably be used to predict the outcomes of certain actions if used correctly.

I also took note of a Biblical reference in EarthBound. In Magicant, the man standing in front of the Sea of Eden tells you something like, "The Sea of Eden is filled with ultimate intelligence. You can't go there unless you're truly ready. It's a place where you can touch the truth of the universe. Going there may bring sorrow." Does that remind you of something else in the story? The Garden of Eden was filled with beauty and wisdom as well, and normal humans cannot enter anymore, and if if they did, they would probably be overwhelmed. Very interesting.

To round off my theory, the first time the AoE was mentioned in the game was by Starman DX. I forget what he said, but my point is, it didn't seem to come into play until later in the game. My mini-theory for why it showed up so late was maybe because a piece of the fruit was being protected as an ancient relic in a Scaraban pyramid. Why else would Pokey need to get through the pyramids when he had a helicopter? He must've caught wind of this mystical apple and he went to claim it for himself and hopefully use it against the Chosen Four. In the end, of course, the Four beat all odds and defeated Giygas. Pokey, however, escaped and began putting the Apple to use for his revenge...
