The Jaded Gamer: It Delivers
Having the ability to order pizza. Seems like a novelty, but believe me, this feature should be implemented in even more games. Was that ability necessary? Of course not. Should it be used as a crutch when health items and PSI is sparse? No. Ordering pizza was all about the vibe. It was all about saying, "Sure, it's a fairly frivolous feature, but we promise you're going to try it at least once." It's all about the EarthBound difference, baby.
I've never been a fan of PSI HP-restoring tactics. Save them. With the beloved PSI caramels more rare than most health items, I'd much rather save the old PSI for the offensive attacks. Who needs health when you have the ability to unload PSI piez with Ness? Besides, don't you think the chosen four needed some better food along the way? I've personally never saw anyone heal themselves with PSI or any kind of magic for that matter, but I know it can't be pretty. Well, at least not as pretty as munching on one of Mach's deep dishes. Hold the picnic lunches, punk, we get delivery! I'm not the brightest around, but put yourself in their shoes. You've trekked you way through multiple towns, laying the smack down on numerous amounts of homeless dogs, hippies, and even the occasional taxi cab. What have you eaten? A crusty old bread roll and a burger you found in a trash can. It's not sanitary, and gosh darnit, it's just not hero-like. Oh, and we can't forget the endorsement possibilities.
Mach Pizza was an expanding chain. That leads me to believe it to be one successful food franchise. Perhaps they'd even take credit for the chosen four's exploits simply by making that zombie paper delivery so long ago. We can't forget, they have a group of kids that saved the world. On their journey, did they make a run for the border? Make a pilgrimage to the golden arches? Did they even have it their way? Heck no. They were elbow deep in your stuffed crust on their adventure. Ka ching! Not only would they have cute, big-headed spokespeople, but they'd also have the flair that'd leave other Eagleland restaurants feeling the pinch. Before you know it, the burger joints would be gone, and Jackie would find himself out on the streets. Thanks to Ness and Co., you got yourself a monopoly. Just another reason to save the world again.
Pardon me for taking this tirade to new lengths, but you just don't see many pizzas being flung about in many other games. Where's the beef? Not here. All we've got is some of that delicious, golden brown Machtastic goodness for our heroes. All that and no stuffed crust. Talk about hardships!
