Grumpiness is BAD, M'kay?

Reading over the forums lately (general discussion, I'm looking your way) I'm noticing a very disturbing trend. More and more people are being outright jerks. People post about their accomplisments or things they made and get met with such incredibly constructive and go-getting comments as "Yay" or "Great". And when people post something they found that they consider funny that's a bit old, they're met with a flood of "ROTFL HELOS DAER AND WELCOMED TO TEH LAST WEEK!". I ask you, is that really needed? No, it's not.

So what the heck's wrong? Are we all supposed to be stoic and serious? Yeah, sure, I enjoy a deep discussion now and then, but if somebody wants to share something they did with you, or have a laugh, the least you can do is keep your mouth shut if you don't have anything nice to say. There are people in the community with excellent grammar and english skills, yet they manage to be ten times worse than any outright lamer could ever be, as they use these skills to bring others down. I don't know if it's just that people are being jerks or trying to look important, but the forums have been slowly going to (not heaven) and it saddens me to see it.

When I first came around here, things were alot more simple. But the place was high spirited, light hearted, and there was a shortage of jerks. It was an Earthbound community if there ever was one. People were, as our benevolent dicator would put it: "Excellent to each other". Amazing what a few years can do. But we still have a salvageble, strong community, hence the regoodification movement.

I guess what I'm trying to say is be nice or shut up. If someone is being lame, let the mods take care of it instead of making a flame war. I realize I'm kinda getting in on the mod's territory here myself, but I felt like something needed to be said. Guys, with the news, we're going to have a flood of new people soon. I want to see them come to the same wonderful page I came to years ago when I entered in a search for Earthbound on yahoo, not just any old game community. We had, and to some degree, still have something special here. Let's go back to the way things used to be, and keep it that way.

Oh yeah, and everybody go write an article. 's good fun.
