My story: Part 2

Isn't it funny how much things can change in just one year?

Last year, I wrote an article called "MY STORY," which was for the essay contest. You can read it here. The article basically consisted of me telling my story of being in the community for half of it, and the other half was me whining about how much I wanted ops. Now that I look back on it, I realize how much I really really needed attention. Oh well, it bagged me a free copy of earthbound ;).

Let's get to the point. This article is updating the whole "MY STORY" thingy.

First of all, I did end up getting ops. What a fiasco that was. I actually got them a few weeks after I wrote the original article, which was pretty cool. I have to say, I didn't really appreciate working under guruzeth, but hey, I got them.

About a month after I originally got them, guruzeth just quit. We all saw it coming, and we knew it would happen. After he left, we had an election to see who will run the channel, and `Frieza was picked to run it.

Now Frieza and I were great buddies, but some of the things he did to #earthbound really weren't the smartest things... *coughdemiopscough*... But he was a laxer leader than guruzeth. This lasted for 6 months before guruzeth finally came back and took over.

Ah yes, I remember that. guruzeth came back and took the list of over 50 ops and skimmed it down to almost 20. A lot of jobs were lost, including mine.

Of course, I was pretty angry. I said some words to guruzeth that I really shouldn't have said, and then I left #starmen for a few weeks. I needed to cool off. I don't remember the exact reason for me coming back, but it had to do with the fact that cyan got his ops back.

You see, cyan and I had a little campaign of sorts going on. We both were trying to rally support to get our ops back. But because I left and Cyan didn't, guru finally gave cyan his ops back.

In january, I started the "Hey guru can I have my ops back" campaign, where every time guru came on I said that. Of course, his answer was always 'no' but I think I might have worn him down :).

Fast forward to march of this year. I had started a survivor game on IRC, and guruzeth signed up for it. I expected him to go in the first week. On the first episode, guruzeth and I made an agreement: I would get my ops back if he won.

During the game, guruzeth and I talked quite a bit about survivor and other things... And strangely enough, we kind of became friends.

Three months later, we were at the final vote... And it was between guruzeth and carpainter. I for one didn't expect him to get that far, but he did. Before I counted the final vote, guruzeth and I were talking. Our conversation went kind of like this:

guruzeth: Hey... just so you know, when I said you could have your ops back, I wasn't serious... :/
SLing: It's ok
SLing: Dude, I know I'm never getting them back...

At that time I was about to go into a big speech about how I had accepted the fact that I'd never get my ops back when guru said something.

guruzeth: heh
guruzeth: Actually, I'm going to give you your ops back.

Just like that, completley out of the blue. I've happily been an op ever since, which is good.

Next, I'm going to briefly talk about EBVortex.net, and the whole scandal that it had. We finally got back on our feet, and jeb appointed me head of the forums. I've had a few jobs there, but I haven't really kept any of them... I'm fine with being the forums guy.

After awhile, we changed to moonside.net (I'm sure everyone remembers starmen.nets fiasco with moonside.net, and if you don't then ask someone on the forums...) And I've been working there ever since.

In the end, guruzeth won survivor, I gave out some badges... And I got a neat custom rank on the starmen.net forums :). CPTCrunch is my god.

Who knows what next year will bring...?
