Last month, my church was doing a service project for the local crisis center, and they asked me to illustrate a coloring book for the kids. By this time, I was already deeply immersed in my "Mother" comic series for the site, and I knew from past experience that if I sidetracked myself, I might never get back around to the comic. I also knew that even if I illustrated this coloring book, my heart just wouldn't be in it unless it was something that I felt very close to. So, instead of throwing together some goofy little "See Spot Run" thing, I decided to take a tiny piece of the storyline from Mother 1 (that is, when Ninten and Lloyd bring Anna her hat) and kiddify it for all it's worth.
The irony of it all is, now there's probably a handful of kids in my hometown running around with their crayons scribbling in a coloring book based on a retro Nintendo game that never made it outside of Japan. And they don't even know it. I've brainwashed the children... :)

PERFECT 10! The score will say 1.10, but it's actually 10.

The blank panel is because I wanted George to deck James in the face when Maria was mentioned, but I didn't want to show it, or insert some goofy sound effect. In the end I decided that it would be best to leave it to the reader's imagination, so I left the panel blank. It also gives it a certain quality which says "you can't even fathom what this punch was like" or that it was kind of an "other-worldly" punch.	10/22/06
kenisu3000	Prologue - Page 11: In the Guest Room Lies...	kenisu - #11 It wasn't until I gave James the line "Why did you bring the boy?" that I realized I must have unconsciously designed him after James "Jimmy" Stewart (the line reminded me of the movie "Shenandoah", where Stewart refers to his own son as "the boy", when speaking to his wife's grave after a huge mess of tragedy happens to the family - he names off everyone in his family that was killed, and since his son was sent into the Civil War against his will, Stewart's character had not heard anything of him for years, and so he adds to his wife "...and probably the boy..."	10/22/06

kenisu3000	Prologue - Page 14: Unwanted Visitors	kenisu - #14 The line "George use to be a journalist" is my tribute to the Encyclopedia Mother, which gives a more detailed account of the history of George and Maria (tells how they got together and fell in love, etc.). By the time I finally got the Encyclopedia (a couple of months back?), I had already had in my head more-or-less what I wanted the entire prologue to encompass, so when I translated the George-and-Maria backstory in the Encyclopedia, I found that account didn't fit 100% with mine, and it was too late to change the pages I had already illustrated, and I was also unwilling to change the ideas I had for the remainder of the prologue. However, I was able to work in the idea that George was a big-time journalist for a famous newspaper, and that his work was what brought him to Mothersday Town, where he met Maria. However, it's only this wink that connects my story with the Encyclopedia's.	9/30/06
