Giegue is, undeniably, evil

I've seen this strange idea coming up more recently, which often leaves me wondering where this idea is springing up from: The notion that Giegue was really not bad and was forced to do the things he did. His character, in some eyes, is extremely victimised, and worthy of much generated sympathy. The same often flies for Porky too but that's another article for another time.

Gonna be honest I don't see it. I've never really seen it, either. And it may surprise you to learn I've had some pret-ty weird ideas in my time. Some you may learn as I submit more, who knows. But the idea of this alien being good (or at the least not intentionally trying to kill the human race) never really sat with me.

But, and I'm going to be presumptuous on this, I've actually played the game so maybe that helps.

That sounds harsh, I know. But frankly I don't see how the idea could have been conceived if someone had actually gone through, spoken to Teddy, and, more importantly, spoken to Giegue himself who doesn't exactly give off a very innocent air. Yes, he appreciated his paternal parents. Yes, he extends an olive branch to Ninten as their descendant. But he also keeps a cave of people in tubes, calls humans 'insects' and still proceeds to smack Ninten and his friends around while they're in his presence.

It's not like he ever makes this case any lighter by the sequel, either, where he's still going round trying to invade and bring humanity to its knees (and at a time was successful). When he went insane is up for debate, but since you get some form of status updates about him from people and aliens as you proceed on your journey, it seems more likely his insanity came at a point where the updates stopped. But again, another article, another time.

To address some of the ideas....

It's worth remembering that, regardless of what you may believe about the Starmen, Giegue is the only person you actually see from his race. He's the only one you get face-to-face with. He doesn't mention anyone else in his race except in passing. There are other aliens, sure, but there's no solid mention of anyone else in his species, Starman, Mook or otherwise. So without relying on fanfiction, who is there to force him to do what he does in the games? George? That's probably the closest you'll realistically get, and the game supports his escaping from the race, alone, with whatever technology/information he stole, 80 years prior to the attacks.

You also have to wonder how Maria ended up the way she did. How did she go from alive, looking after Giegue and singing lullabies (that no, whatever extrenuous knowledge you apply the implication was that he didn't like it), to a ruler of her own little domain, in a tower where she is forever miserable and has broken dreams about the very song she can't remember, unable to escape until the shattered lullaby is remembered. Would George really have left his wife behind if she had still been alive? Maria had presented a weakness to the race, would they have let her go? Giegue certainly wasn't happy with the lullaby, as you wonderfully demonstrate when facing him in battle. But is it ever made clear that Giegue had nothing to do with the death, or that he was in any way saddened at her passing?

Because aside from a moment of pity for Ninten, he certainly doesn't seem to phased or partial to humans after the ordeal.

So tl;dr, sorry guys but Giegue is a pretty clear human-hater. If you met him under any circumstances he'd probably make your head explode or turn you into a psychic psycho where your brain will be fully exposed and you'll spend the rest of your days on fire. I wouldn't put too much stock in his being the victim, here.

Satsy outt!
